104: Date with Destiny
And so we go on a final date to the Yorkshire village of Bruncliffe as the series comes to an end on book 10. This is now of my all time favourite cosy crime series, and a place I retreat to frequently, almost like a second home. Julia Chapman has created such a wonderful community, picking up the books are like going to meet old friends.

I stumbled across this series accidentally a few years back, when browsing Audible for something new to read. The series involves a cat-loving jazz record-nut who finds and flips rare vinyl for a living. He’s often recruited to find specific records and solve related mysteries along the way. Each book is based around a different musical genre as we follow the group of friends on their record hunting adventures, with plenty of sex drugs and rock & roll (or folk or jazz or punk or swing…). The lead characters can be pretty pretentious and insufferable, London hipsters, but I still enjoy the series and always pick up the books as they come out. (Although I did nearly quit when the narrator kept pronouncing Persephone as Percy-phone). They’re great fun to read though, and with a new instalment coming out at the end of March, it was time to recap the entire series.
