I’ll admit it – the cover of this totally sucked me in. And as someone who has run fan-sites in the long distant past, the book called me out ๐

After a painful breakup, Melody takes comfort in a historical drama, and starts making fan content online focussing on the male lead, which brings her a massive following on social media.
When the star is spotted in stealthily shot secret footage in a super-private club with a woman, and the footage is then inexplicably removed, Melody is on the case. Accused of circulated fake footage, Melody heads to the club, and uncovers something much bigger than she ever expected. With some of her closest online friends from the fandom, they track down the mystery woman… she’s been reported as a missing person. Is the club involved in people trafficking? Is Melody’s favourite TV hunk involved?
Melody and her chronically online friends from across the world turn their research skills to detective work, to find out what’s going on and to uncover the secrets of the mysterious club, with the help of a cute journalist, who is also sniffing out a story. It’s not an easy case to work, facing a fandom turning toxic and actual real life gangsters. It turns out that an online obession could prove to be a real life danger.ย
The novel feels like both a take-down and a celebration of online idol worship, and I loved the characters and how they team up. Mystery, murder and romance – it’s such a fun combination, and a really enjoyable read, with eye-opening moments and humour throughout. I hope we see more from this crack sleuthing team!
