REVIEW: Death by Canape by Faith Eckersall

Published by Embla Books

Hold on a sec – I’m just on the phone to renew my subscription to the Paddington Gazette…

Harry Hedges, former London newspaper man, and now editor of the Paddington Gazette is back for another adventure, with his rag-tag crew.

Someone is leaving fake bodies in the local Model Village. A big-name influencer is moving out to the village from London to experience the joys of country living. The newspaper office has a literal rat problem. Oh, and the mayor’s just keeled over.

And so we get to enjoy another tale from Piddlington Minster, Dorset, as Harry tries to keep his journalistic integrity and run a decent paper, while questioning if the mayor’s death is all that it seems.

Full of big characters and almost slapstick set-pieces, this is a fabulously funny cosy mystery novel, poking fun at digital media and influencer culture. It’s such an entertaining series – it’s an absolute riot to read, and while I love the audio narrated by Jonathan Keeble, I’m not sure how he manages to read it without laughing. He’s a stronger person than me!
