A Quick Betwixtmas Project: The Chunkiest Cowl Ever!

Pattern: Lowestoft by Mode at Rowan

Yarn: Stylecraft Recreate Chunky in shade Aubergine

I first saw this scarf/cowl at a fashion show by Rowan Yarns, held at my local yarn shop, Black Sheep Wools. Rowan were showcasing their new Mode at Rowan collection, and I just loved the chunkiness.

The yarn range has limited colours, and I wanted a purple, so substituted for Stylecraft Recreate Chunky. This gives a slightly stiffer fabric, but is a 100% recycled yarn with 40% wool content, and is a good economical alternative. It’s lovely to work with.

To give the bulkiness, 2 strands of yarn are used, knitted with 12mm needles. At this size, the project works up quickly. It’s garter stitch throughout, so it’s a super fast knit that requires little concentration, great to get on the needle in that vague time between Christmas and New Year, while listening to audiobooks.

Perfect for this cold snap we’re about to experience!
