Freya Lockwood returns in the third novel from CL Miller, and of course, that means Aunt Carole is back too!
Fresh from their adventures at sea on an Antiques cruise, the Lockwood Antiques Hunters agency head up to Scotland to investigate after a phone call from their associate Bella that appeared to be asking for help. And Bella isn’t someone that asks for help.

Arriving at a remote castle, they find Bella is missing, and the Laird has been murdered – are the two linked?
Once again we’re immersed in the murky world of the antiques black market and forgery while learning more about the antiques themselves, from paintings to trinkets, and Miller’s novels often lead you to getting lost down your own research rabbit holes as you look up the antiques the hunters are investigating. While her descriptions are detailed, each book seems to come with its own set of side quests and google searches. I always finish the book with a new wish list of things I want to collect.
The mystery itself is satisfying, with old family secrets being brought into the light, and the bonds between the team’s “found family” strengthening. I can’t wait to see where the agency goes next.
As always, the novel is read by Emilia Fox who brings the characters to life.
