Mrs Sidhu – Caterer. Problem Solver. Action hero?
I absolutely adored Mrs Sidhu in her first full length outing, Dead and Scone, so I was really excited to be back in her world in her new adventure – Just Desserts. When hired to cater a high-end art gallery event, the cooking utensils are pushed to one side when one of her waitresses is found murdered, and a priceless art piece is stolen. Taking this quite personally, Mrs Sidhu gets involved in investigating the case, no matter what it takes.

What I enjoy most about Mrs Sidhu is that she is unapologetically herself. She doesn’t just go along for the ride, she’s driving the action and the narrative and fully commits to everything she does, with exuberance and vigour and her own sense of justice – whether that’s right or wrong. She is not completely impervious to self-doubt though, and shows moments of vulnerability and you just want to pull her in close and hug her. And also sample her baking.
While I loved the story and the mystery, most of all, I just adore Mrs Sidhu and her full-on approach to life. We should all be more like her.
